Those Malvani Style Chickpeas - Done .  I soaked the chickpeas overnight & then pressure cooked them in salted water along with asafoetida. I let out the pressure, opened the lid and allowed the peas to continue simmering gently.  I cooked in coconut oil and tempered it with mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida, garlic, onions & freshly scraped coconut. I then added in tomatoes and a hand pounded, preservative-free spice mix from the Malvan region of India and cooked till the tomatoes…

This fierce Tamil curry is something I really enjoyed in Penang at Mutthus banana leaf restaurant and all over Tamil Nadu and right down to the north of Sri Lanka.
