These female archers are competing in the National Round Archery event of the 1908 London Olympics, just eight years after women were first permitted to enter the games at all. The event was won by Sybil (Queenie) Newall of Great Britain.

FAKE: That the mother was dead. FACT: The "hidden mother" was draped so she could hold and/or keep her kids calm and still. The children's photos would be cropped and matted separately and it was best if "pieces" of mom weren't in the background.

Victorian Death Photos

A Victorian "hidden mother' memento mori / post mortem photo / photograph. In the Victorian Era, women holding infants were often covered; because the photograph is meant to be cropped to show only the infant.

Women of the west were different than the girls back home.

This is exactly how I picture women in the Wild West, drinking alcohol and carrying guns. I love how they still look classy with their skirts on
