TTT Step 2d(Entire book):"Three young women from one small island have become international symbols of freedom for women, and men, everywhere"(Alvarez 330). This explains the falling action because after the sisters became famous and stand up to Trujillo.
CTC Step 2 (Maria-Teresa): “...and scolded myself for not having noticed if there was a ring on his hand. But I knew that even if he was married, I would not give him up. Right then, I began to forgive Papa” (142). This quote shows Mate's feelings and thoughts as she begins to understand her father's decision to have an affair. It also shows how much of a determine person she is by not letting go the man she wants the most.
Genre: The genre of this book is historical fiction. It is this genre because even though this event really happened the thought of the sisters were made up. Julia Alvarez made this book based on what she thoughts the sisters were thinking and she got most conversations and events from her interview with Dede Mirabal.
CTC Step 5 (D):From the first chapter I can tell that Dedé is a strong woman. In the story on page 8 her father says " Ay, Dedé, that's why I have You. Every soft foot needs a hard shoe". To me this means that Dedé has always been a head strong person which was a good trait to have during the period of time she was alive.
TTT Step 2a(Entire book): "...what bad things was Trujillo doing that they wanted to kill him?"(Alvarez 17). This explains the exposition because this shows when Sinita started telling Minerva about how Trujillo does sneaky and bad things which bring Minerva to her senses that Trujillo is not a good candidate for her.
Background Info (PIN 1) By 1927, Trujillo was commander-in-chief of the army. He was automatically voted in by the Dominican people due to them being afraid of Trujillo. If they didn't vote for him, then they suffered tragic consequences or death.
Theme. Step 3: The rising action is when it says " ...and I can see my hand in an endless slow motion rise- a mind all its own- and come down on the astonished, made-up face"(Alvarez 100). This shows that the rising action is when Munerva rejects El Jefe's sexual request and El Jefe in return throws Papá in jail. After this the sister's innocence is gone away.
Theme. Step 10: The theme of the novel In the Time of the Butterflies is that you shouldn't commit evil if you don't want evil to come back to you. That because Trujillo was commuting evil crimes in the Dominican Republic but when people like the Mirabal sisters try to go against his evils he wants to kill them off.
Opinion: In my opinion the book 'In the time of the Butterflies' the book was interesting. One thing that i didn't know was that these sisters were killed. One thing i would change is having more intense scenes.
TTT Step 2c(Entire book):"..anticipating the lighted house just around the bend-- That's the way i felt as we started up the first mountain"(Alvarez 297). This shows climax because after everything that went down with the drama, the sisters died which made everything calm down and everything fall in place.
