Overmarbling, marbling technique ~ Galen Berry

Overmarbling, marbling technique ~ Galen Berry

Overmarbling (by Galen Berry) is when one pattern is printed on top of another. Here a pastel peacock pattern can be seen in the background, with an Italian Vein on top of it done in brown and black. The paper has to be completely dried after the first print, re-treated with alum, and printed again, so it's twice the work. I usually only overmarble a paper in an attempt to salvage one I've goofed up on!

Thistle Pattern: A complex, difficult pattern, similar to the peacock but more detailed.
