Eastern Rosella, native to south-eastern Australia including Tasmania. They are intelligent birds and can be kept as pets but do not tolerate 'petting' or 'cuddling' like most parrots do. They are likely to bite if handled this way.

Tasmania only has three types of parrot. Paul was taking the photo of one of these in an aviary at Eagles Neck, when a free rosella flew down and posed for him on a branch above the cage. I felt sorry for the imprisoned birds watching.
