This is a stunning late Victorian hand carved mirror frame. It is probably German in origin, carved in the Black Forest style. The mirror probably was designed as a table top one - with a stand at the back, but has recently been converted to hang on the wall. This mirror and Black Forest frame is just exquisite - and as you can see from my photographs the carving is certainly most superior in detail and craft. The mirror frame is tromphe loeil and carved from one piece of wood to resemble a…

This is certainly a most fabulou vintage Statton Powder Compact, dating to the late 1950s or early 1960s. It is completely pristine, and never been used - it even has its original sticker on the glass mirror inside - given you maintenance instructions. It is decoratated on top with a lovely enamel image on the lid of a pair of fishfishers and to the right hand side is a little flittering dragonfly. As you can see from my photographs - it is shiny and in as nice condition as you might…

A pair of hands resting with alightness on the ledge of a window ready to grab a whole world offered to them. This is what I am photographing for: Finding a way to escape the Platonian cave finding a way to turn my back away from my own shadow and face theworld I know I was meant to belong to. This makes me think of a quote by Philippe Delerm a writer and a poet: Everywhere I bring myself with me and everywhere I bring my own shadow with me. As the etymology of 'Photographer deals with…

Her face was like the Moon as she sat in the Geisha House waiting... From my book "Hanjo", a photographic adaption of Yukio Mishima's Noh Opera. The story of the geisha Hanako who goes insane with longing when her lover Yoshio does not return. She is the muse and obsession of the painter Jitsuko. All sets and clothing was built and created by my creative team. The images emulate Japanese hand-colored photography of the 1880s. Learn more at www.roth-photo.com
