Zion Gate, Jerusalem. Zion Gate is one of the primary access points to the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City. During the Israeli war for independence in 1948, Jewish paramilitary forces assaulted the gate in an effort to gain access to the Old City. It was riddled with bullet holes during their fighting with Jordanian troops. The damage remains there today.

The Wall of the Righteous (Le Mur des Justes) lists the full names of the "Righteous among the Nations" -- those persons who during 1939-45 helped rescue Jews from extermination -- and the place of their deeds. 21,310 names were on the wall as of 2008, including 2,693 France citizens.
