Hemolysis

Hemolysis or hemolysis is the medical term used to describe the destruction or breakdown of red blood cells. The combining form “hem/o-” actually means blood, or in this case blood cells, while “lys/o-” or “lysis” refers to the breaking down or destruction of something. Hemolysis is known to lead to anemia, a condition that develops when there’s a low amount of red blood cells in the body. There are two types of hemolysis. There is extravascular hemolysis and intravascular hemolysis.
