New England Mid 19th Century Engraved Percussion Rifle

A most uncommon 48 caliber octagon barrel rifle made by a very competent Western Massachusetts gun smith, William D. Miller, from Pittsfield in Berkshire County, in a fine state of preservation. The maker chose well figured walnut for the stock showing a good amount of crotch and curly figuring. The brass , German silver and steel lock plate of the tang, barrel breech, trigger guard and patch cover have a generous amount of engraving. The stock appears to retain an early crazed but clean…
