The jewelry piece on display is called "Avalakki sara" ( In Kannada). Avalakkai translates to Phoa or flattened rice. Any kind of chain is referred to as Sara in Kannada. The jewelery is named "Avalakki sara" because of its shape. The piece, in gold, was made on order around 1960 by a jeweler in Thymagondlu.
