Buddhist lion capital - The pillar (free standing) of Ashoka at Sarnath, India. The pillar is the most celebrated of all the Ashoka pillars, the Emperor Ashoka had many made, only 19 remain intact or partially intact.  The base of the pillar formed the Chakra, a 24 spoke "wheel" each of which stands for an hour of the day...that Chakra is on the center of the National Flag of India.
