Another image from an article in Transport Age, the BTC's magazine - this showing one of the Manchester - Sheffield - Wath electric freight locomotives (26005) newly in service on the recently electrified cross-Pennine 'Woodhead' route. The long, war-delayed, gestation of this ex-LNER scheme to electrify a main line was primarily aimed at dealing with the heavy freight the challenging line carried as seen here - a coal train from the Yorkshire coalfields running to a steelworks at Hawarden…

Many thanks to 'Pickled Kidney' for finding some of my old colour negs. I gave the original print to Nigel and never got round to reprinting it for myself. Nigel was an early loss to the team. He died of cancer at the far too early age of 44. During a period of remission, he returned to work long enough to be the fireman on 'Flying Scotsman' on one of it's visits to our area. A gentleman to work with and a consummate railwayman. He had a copy of every registration plate for every motorbike…
