The Chinese Monal (Lophophorus lhuysii) is a pheasant restricted to mountains of central China. The male's plumage is highly iridescent & has a lg drooping purple crest, a metallic green head, blue bare skin around the eyes, a reddish gold mantle, bluish green feathers & black underparts. The female is dark brown with white on its throat. Due to ongoing habitat loss, limited range & illegal hunting, it is evaluated as a vulnerable species.
