How to get all students to participate in answering a question and keep them engaged!!! Students are setup in groups of four. Say, "If you know the answer, raise your Right Hand, if you don't, raise your Left (this ensures that ALL kids participate, even if they do not know the answer.)Then say, "Righties, explain the answer (not just give the answer) to the Lefties in your group." Then, call on a "Lefty" for the answer. If they are right or wrong, the ENTIRE group is responsible. :)
Every time a student adds a descriptive word to his or her writing, he or she can write that word using one of the colored pens. Then, continue with pencil. Descriptive adjectives and verbs are colorful and stand out while students are writing. This is good for creativity during the writing process. Students feel important and will actually be encouraged to continue writing. From: Create, Teach, Share Blog
At the beginning of every month, everyone starts off in the homework club. If they turn all their homework in on time, then they get to stay in the club! If they don't then they are out of the club. Students who turn all their homework in for the entire month get to come to our monthly homework club lunch.
