On Christmas Eve 1952, the futuristic Handley Page Victor, the third of Britain’s V-Force nuclear deterrent aircraft, soared into the air for the first time. It had been transported to the airfield by road, disguised as a boat. 30 years later, a Victor tanker nursed our chief pilot home after the famous Black Buck raid on Port Stanley’s runway.
