As Tate Britain prepares to open a new exhibition of L.S. Lowry’s industrial landscapes, we look at scenes of northern urban life in our collection.
1957: Laden with pails and cloths, three members of the catering staff paddle through the flooded Wimbledon Stadium. Because of the floods, the greyhound race meeting had to be postponed. Wimbledon was one of the London areas affected by the floods caused by heavy rains.
