MV Calchas, an "A" ship built by Harland & Wolff, Belfast for Blue Funnel Lines & launched '47. Used as a training ship her crew was 22 midshipmen and 14 engineer cadets. Moved to Glen Lines in '57 & renamed MV Glenfinlas. Returned to Blue Funnel as MV Calchas. In Dec.'71 transferred to Elder Dempster Line & renamed MV Akasombo. Returned to Blue Funnel & caught fire in Port Kelang, Malaysia on 22/07/73. A total write off she was towed to Singapore for scrapping in Nov.'73

Royal Daffodil II (1934 -1962) Liverpool to New Brighton ferry across the River Mersey ~ I personally recall sailing on this ferry in the 1950s during summer holidays, I believe this to be one of my reasons for running away to sea at 17 .... the enjoyment of sea travel :)
