Steaming a silk scarf painted with green label silk dyes from @jacquardproducts . This step is required to fix the dyes on silk after the painting is finished. The steaming process not only fixes the colors but also makes the colors even more vibrant. This scarf will be steamed for 3 hours and then washed to remove the excess dye. Another tip on working with dyes on silk.... When painting a background, the trickiest part is getting a uniform background and avoiding brush marks. It takes a lot of practice to achieve this but if dyes are used in place of silk paints to paint the background, it becomes slightly easier as dyes move more freely on silk. A few tips to create smooth lines with resist on silk. Whether you are working with wax or gutta as a resist, keep these pointers in mind. 1. Your silk should be stretched properly without any sags or folds 2. Draw the pattern beforehand and try to create continuous lines. 3. When lifting your gutta tube or applicator bottle or tjanting tool, do it in a smooth upward motion. This way you can avoid blobs of resist on silk. 4. Check for gaps in the lines. Part 2 of my batik silk dupatta..... I have almost finished this batik dupatta. Today was a good day as I got almost 5 hours for painting. I have finished the flowers and the background. Only leaves are left, which I'll finish tomorrow (hopefully 😁). I made the background before leaves because it's going to be very light and even if it bleeds a little, darker leaves will cover that.
