This is a great cookbook, even better than that rather amazing cover photo. 😉 That's actually a favorite photo I took at my recommended yoga & meditation retreat called Aro Ha ( Aroharetreats on Insta) . The book, Plant to Plate, contains a bunch of pictures of high-functioning hippies pulling plants out of the ground and then immediately sitting down and putting them right on a plate before eating them. They don’t even use utensils. No need. Fun fact: The plates are made from hemp by a group of free-range bonobos.

The end of an era!

The time has finally come to move on from my trusty Sony a7R3. It's been an awesome body and while I've flirted with some others over the past few years none of them felt like a useful upgrade, so I always ended up back on the Mark 3. Amongst other things it's been with me from New York to San Francisco and loads in-between in the US, all over Asia, through Africa including being AWOL in Madagascar for a few days, went from the Portuguese coast to Russia via 9 other cities and more countries. It even survived Burning Man more than once. My companion on a bunch of hikes, including the Camino de Santiago and all-around New Zealand it's been a phenomenal device.

Here’s one from a fun day in Antarctica where I spent the day with thousands of penguins. You can see a few of them that ventured away from their “nest” (basically a circle of rocks) down onto the ice flows to go fishing. Even though I thought the penguins were cute, I was kind of hoping for an Orca to come up so I could see a takedown. Another day, another hike! I’ve been out enjoying this weather on looooong walks about 3-4 hours a day, listening to all sorts of audiobooks. I usually carry a few pieces of fruit that I eat like a primate while my monkey brain tries to figure out these books. #TreyRatcliff #NewZealand #LandscapePhotography Fruit, North America, Walks, Grounds, South America

I took this while on a boat with the amazing Stu after another delightful day exploring Scotland. I can’t wait to go back. Here’s a photo I took on the way to Glenorchy the other day to go on a long hike with some friends. It’s been a great summer down here… hiking between 10-20km a day. The nature here is so beautiful and relaxing. Travel Photography, Nature, Travel, Travel Photos, Summer, Friends, Street Photography

This is one of the first digital paintings I did. I got a Wacom tablet for some reason and then decided I should try painting. Why not? I think it turned out pretty well, but I have a feeling that actual painters that have a lifetime of experience would find a lot of faults with it! A visit to Milford Sound... this is a pano made out of dozens of photos. The full one is about 35,000 pixels across... they don't read as well on socials, but it looks great printed out at 3 meters across. #treyratcliff #NewZealand #MilfordSound Nature Photography, Making Out, Prints

This is the rather awesome freshwater Loch Coruisk (right) on Skye which drains into the saltwater Loch na Cuilce via what must be one of the shortest rivers around, Scavaig River, at only a few hundred meters long. #TreyRatcliff #Scotland #IsleofSkye #Skye #Landscape Water, Rivers, River, Saltwater, Isle Of Skye, Fresh Water

It is late evening. The foreground of the image is fairly flat, grassy landscape with a small river running into the distance. From there large, jagged mountain peaks rise sharply to peaks. The tops are catching the sunlight and the last remains of the winter snow can be seen. Mount Cook, South Island, Island, Europe
On the way to Mount Cook/Aoraki
This a shot I got on the way to Mount Cook. It's about a 4 hour drive from my home, but there are literally a million places you can take photos. Actually, there are millions of millions I suppose... As you approach Mount Cook, there are just endless openings like this where you can hike around. I've walked out here for ages upon ages and never even seen another human being. It's wild how unpopulated the South Island of New Zealand is. #TreyRatcliff #Landscape #MountCook #Aoraki #NewZealand
A view of Lake Wanaka from a helicopter. It is early summer. The Lake, a glacial lake, is dotted with islands and in the distance are large mountain peaks. The sky is heavily textured with fluffy white clouds. New Zealand, Special Occasion, Camping, Art
Over Wanaka
Here's a new one from Wanaka, which is about an hour north of me here in New Zealand. I took this from a helicopter as I was flying over there to camp with some friends. I know, fancy right? I don't often go camping, but when I do, I only arrive by helicopter. Just kidding... it was a special occasion, and the camping was incredible... nothing like wandering out nude and wading into that beautiful lake... #TreyRatcliff #Landscape #Wanaka #NewZealand #Lake
The calm water of a reflection pool makes up the foreground of the image. In the middle range are some of the wooden structures that make up Aro-Ha yoga retreat in New Zealand. It overlooks Lake Wakatipu, which is a cool purple colour reflecting some of the colours of the sunrise. People, Workshop, New Zealand Landscape
New Zealand Photography Workshop
I’m having my first New Zealand landscape photography workshop since Covid! Hard to believe some people have been booked in since 2019 waiting for all the pandemic and travel restriction craziness to pass. We’re pretty much sold out, maybe a couple of spaces left, so if you’ve always wanted to come to NZ, this is a fun way to do it! I’m planning some cool trips that we’ve never done before with other NZ workshop participants. Grab one of the last few spots via the link. #TreyRatcliff #Workshop
On the north end of the Isle of Skye the landscape is a mix of softer material and hard volcanic rock. The softer land is slipping away from the rock over time, leaving exposed peaks which in this image are just reaching up into the low cloud and mist. Rock Formations, North, Antarctica
More Scottish Rock
The change in landscape across Skye was huge as we drove around exploring. Each area interesting in its own way. Here's one little chunk from the north of the island and its cool rock formations as the clouds rolled in across the peaks. #TreyRatcliff #Scotland #Skye #LandscapePhotography
A view from a quadcopter above the coast of the Isle of Skye. The shallow sea water in the foreground is a mix of blues and greens which splash against hard, granite type rock which quickly slopes to the height of several buildings. Across the ridge is a freshwater loch, banked by large mountains on most sides to create a cauldron like landscape. These are dark rock, jagged, which reach up so that the peaks are shrouded in a set of moody looking clouds, a contrast with the sunny foreground. Default
Loch Cauldron
Just over the ridge here, from the sea loch, Loch na Cuilce, is the freshwater Loch Coruisk… translated that means “Cauldron of Water”. A fitting name indeed. It’s fairly inaccessible by foot, do-able for the experienced walker/climber if you fancy a rather questionable section called “the bad step” although that’s not recommended in the wet… which is most of the time in Scotland! 😀 So, the only real way to get there is by boat, which Stu and I did. #TreyRatcliff #Skye #Landscape #LochCoruisk
A view from the air of The Trossachs, a mountainous area in central Scotland. Just south of The Highlands. It quite a cloudy day however they are high clouds, adding texture to the image rather than reducing visibility. In this image the hills are covered in lush green foliage. There are three lochs surrounding a central hill and in the far distance some of the larger peaks of the Scottish landscape can be seen. Klingon
The Trossachs
Scottish place names… gotta love them. This is part of The Trossachs… feels lovely on the tongue. As does one of the more distant places in this image; Stronachlachar. Lovely sound and feel, like a good Klingon opera… #TreyRatcliff #Scotland #Trossachs #Loch #Landscape
