London Rambles: Cottages

You may be surprised at how many old cottages there are in the area covered by the London Tube network. Half-timbered, terraced, some with traditional front gardens, others with barely room for a few pots. I've also included almshouses and Victorian lodges, which have a charm of their own.

Although it has a grand name, this is a very modest square, the cottages having been built for employees of the Imperial Gas Works in Fulham, London. You can see one of the gas holders in the distance.


Originally a seventeenth-century outhouse, this delightful cottage can be found in the market town of Amersham, UK


At the end of this street and opposite a row of small Chesham, UK, Whitewashed cottages with impressive kitchen gardens/allotments. These were once the workhouse gardens.
