the end of another journal
My journals are a big mix of half finished drawings, random "idea" doodles, patterns, finished drawings and crossed out ugly stuff. Years ago I would have hated that everything wasn't perfect and that it was all bound together in a journal and I had to live with for all eternity........or burn it........! That mindset would have squashed my creativity - and the anxiety of the possibility of it not being perfect from start to finish might have prevented me from starting. Now, I embrace…

Heartstrings - VIDEO and variations
Feedburner is doing funny things with the stats, showing me that my subscribers have disappeared. I have my fingers crossed the feed is going out. If you subscribe via email, and you receive this, I would love it if you could post a comment, or email me to let me know that it is working. Thankyou, thankyou :) O.k, so I finally got this video uploaded after 5 tries! Aaargh! Last night, on my 4th try, it told me it was going to take 7 hours to upload.......huh?!?.......what?????!!! So I just…
growing tube
I have another terrible drawing pad - the last one was good, but this one - Jasart - is no good for shading with markers - it causes the ink to smudge from the line drawings when I work with the markers & also breaks down a bit when it becomes saturated. O.k. for just drawing/inkwork. Ah well, I will just have to work around it (I hate leaving a journal 1/2 full, so will persist till I finish it) - at least I know not to buy it again. I have a couple of moleskine journals on the way and am…

look ma, no grid
This week's diva challenge was, not surprisingly, the newly released zentangle pattern - Well. Every time I approached this pattern using the grid as a base there was some weird gravitational pull going on that kept making me convert it into something very like paradox - I just could not help but put directional lines in it - and voila - paradox. So, I ditched the grid and "randomised" it. First, I approached this by doing random large and small circles on the page and connected them with…
feather flowers and shading woes
A busy weekend. Not only did I go on a field trip to buy a 300+kg bag of pig feed, John and I got out in the veggie garden and put up our new raised garden bed this morning. I was so glad to get back inside to my nice, warm wood heater and my pjs. Luckily John is back at work tomorrow and not able to distract me with moving cows, building garden beds, having coffees and spending time together :) I've tracked down a "follow" button that wasn't the bulky, default one offered in blogger gadgets…
challenge #92 - stripes
This weeks diva challenge string theory - stripes. Loved it. I still have a couple more drawings in progress in my journal, but wanted to get something up today. So, here goes! Pencil strips - meant to represent strips of patterned paper rolled around a pencil. I love my pencil and most of the strips, though the orientation on one of them is annoying me. Generally, when I am looking for patterns, I start flicking through my log from front to back - this time I started at the back so that I…

Plower PATTERN
A while ago I was playing around with Beth Snoderly's pattern Plop - lots of fun. In my play I kept going back to a more minimalist floral design with no diagonal line. Using the dots on the grid really helps to keep track of where you are in the pattern as these provide a centre point for the flowers. I approach it by drawing it in alternating blocks as shown below and ended up with a Plop Flower = Plower. On a wonky grid..... Interested in the experimentation process I use when playing…
