(Perhaps I've been over-invested in cats?) CHICKEN, CHICKS, ROOSTERS, and the occasional nasty, evil GOOSE
Chicken girl
This is a scanned photo taken by my husband from when we lived in Africa. Its my middle daughter seriously holding one of the three chickens we allowed to roam the garden and who generously provided us with eggs in return. Before anyone asks I want to explain that we got two of the birds from a local farmer who produced chicks for laying, it was custom to clip the tips of their beaks to stop them pecking each other when they were in the barn. as you can see they became very tame.
"The Chickens". My future husband would have to love chickens too, of course!

Always wear your prettiest seersucker dress when tending to the chickens. They appreciate the effort.
Wonder how many of those eggs made it to the house? Lol

Famous People With Chickens
Lady Diana Cooper This past week, I have been suffering from dental difficulties and running a fever. On top of that, it has been cold and pouring rain. The other day I pulled in and before I could stop the car, my chickens exploded out of their house to greet me. They stood there in the driving rain getting soaked to the wishbones, but they wanted to see me. (Perhaps it was the fever talking...) still, they came out to greet me in the rain. I loved them for that gesture on such a miserable…

Nancy Luce - Pet Chicken Folk Hero
Nancy Luce may be the most important pet chicken lover you've never heard of--called "The Madonna of the Hens." She lived and died in the West Tisbury area of Martha's Vineyard in the 1800s---and she adored her pet chickens, which were a solace in her hard, troubled life. She loved them so much, in fact, that she wrote…
